Green Mediterranean Islands in the same parallel – The Valleta Festa
For two full days, Ammouliani becomes a meeting point of the Mediterranean, hosting Valletta’s authentic Maltese festa! This is a unique presentation organized by the Municipality of Aristotle, Halkidiki, as part of the revival of the ARISTOTELIA.
On Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, the Maltese tradition travels from Valletta to Ammouliani, creating a unique experience of culture, music, tradition and celebration, while also building a vibrant bridge between two different parts of the Mediterranean.
The event, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, is part of the programme entitled “GREEN MEDITERRANEAN ISLANDS ON THE SAME GEOGRAPHICAL PARALLEL,” through which the Municipality of Aristotle is developing networks of exchange and cooperation with Mediterranean islands and coastal areas. The common denominator is the local community and the search for new ways of cooperation.
From Valletta to Ammouliani
The festa is one of the most distinctive traditions of Maltese cultural life. It is a celebration with deep social and community roots, combining tradition with music, marching bands, processions, impressive decorations, illuminations and collective participation. In Malta, the festa is not simply a celebration. It is an experience that brings residents and visitors together, transforms public spaces and highlights local identity. This authentic spirit is being brought to Ammouliani, where the festa will meet the natural and cultural environment of Eastern Halkidiki, offering visitors the opportunity to discover a different yet deeply Mediterranean tradition up close.
A year of cooperation becomes reality
The Municipality of Aristotle established ties with the Municipality of Valletta a year ago, with Ammouliani itself serving as the starting point. One year later, this networking initiative is gaining tangible substance and is being transformed into an open cultural event that brings Malta to Halkidiki.
As Stélios Valianos, Mayor of Aristotle, points out:
“The goal is to study cultures, draw inspiration from them and turn them into tourism bridges.” This event embodies precisely this philosophy: cultural heritage is not treated as something static, but as a starting point for new encounters, experiences and partnerships.
The Mediterranean meets the Mediterranean
The Maltese festa will meet the Greek island tradition in Ammouliani, and together they will create a new cultural narrative centered on people, the local community and the visitor experience. The initiative is a characteristic example of the philosophy of the ARISTOTELIA, which seeks to connect cultural heritage with contemporary creativity and highlight the Municipality of Aristotle as a place open to dialogue. At the same time, it strengthens a modern tourism approach that goes beyond the natural landscape, highlighting culture and experiences as key elements of a destination’s tourism identity.
For one September weekend, Ammouliani becomes a small “crossroads” of the Mediterranean, through an initiative demonstrating that the Mediterranean, despite its different languages, histories and traditions, has a common way of coming together: through culture, hospitality and the joy of collective celebration.
